At the Polish Championships for 14-year-olds held in Dębica from 4 to 6 July, Izabela Tkaczyk performed excellently. The trainee of coach Krzysztof Wróbel set personal records in every qualifying event and confidently advanced to the A final in the 100 m freestyle and 200 m individual medley.
In the first of these events, after a close-fought battle, our athlete secured fifth place (1:11.54 min), missing the bronze medal by just 0.04 s. She also came very close to a medal in the 200 m individual medley. There, she missed out by only 0.10 s (2:28.87 min). Iza also won the B finals in the 50 m freestyle (28.26 s) and 200 m freestyle (2:15.06 min). Our swimmer also took fifth place in the B final of the 50 m freestyle.
“I am happy, but I do feel a certain sense of disappointment. I really was within reach of two medals. It didn’t work out this year, but I will fight for them next year. The work we do during training is producing results, and if my health allows, everything will be fine. I would like to thank my coach Krzysiek Wróbel and coach Wiktor Łodyga. Above all, I would like to thank my parents, who support me with all their strength. I want to thank my club, UKS Oxpress, for enabling me to achieve increasingly better results,” said a delighted Iza.
Also competing at the championships was Agata Knapik, who has been struggling with health problems this year. The Oxpress swimmer also improved several personal records, taking seventh place in the B final of the 100 m butterfly (1:11.64 min) and 12th place in the 400 m individual medley (5:35.90).
