The Fakty news programme on Telewizja Wrocław will include live reports from Popiełuszki Square. Fakty at 6:30 p.m. will be hosted by Paweł Wilk. The studio will connect with Bolesławiec three times: at 5:30 p.m., 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The programme will also be available online (www.tvp.pl/wroclaw/zobacz-na-zywo) and on mobile devices.
The South Slavic Culture Festival showcases the rich culture of southern Europe. The festival’s aim is to nurture Balkan traditions, with which many residents of Bolesławiec and the surrounding area are connected.
On Saturday, a re-emigrant village will be built in Popiełuszki Square. It will be occupied by rural women’s associations and other organisations, while the partner city of Prnjavor will also have its own stand.
Residents and visitors will have the opportunity to try Balkan cuisine: traditional pita with fillings (spicy and savoury), goulash or pepper soup, as well as pečenica – a traditional festive dish made from roasted piglet. There will also be culinary competitions for “good pita” and “Balkan cauldron”.
An hour before noon, a colourful procession of folk groups will set off from the Market Square to Popiełuszki Square, launching the official opening of the festival. During the opening, accompanied by Kapela Herbutów, we will dance Kolo together, a traditional folk dance popular in the Balkans.
There will also be a cake to mark the 40th anniversary of the signing of the partnership agreement with Prnjavor. Local folk groups will perform on stage. As every year, there will be foreign guests: two groups from Croatia – the vocal tamburitza ensemble “Sinovi atara” and the KUD Dika Slatina song and dance ensemble – as well as the group Srbsko Folkorno Udruzenje „Svilen Konac” Lisnja from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The evening’s star will be the Lublin folk and world-music group Čači Vorba, specialising in a vibrant blend of Roma, Balkan and Carpathian music.
