Our Reader asked us to publicize the matter. In an email to the editorial office, she informed us about the course of the general meeting of the “Bolesławianka” Housing Cooperative, which took place on May 22:
After the meeting began, one of the members informed the assembly that it was illegal because the Cooperative’s Board had not notified some members of Estate No. 4 S. Staszica about the General Meeting. The Board, consisting of P. Hetel, B. Ślęzak and A. Micek, together with a legal counsel, initially tried to argue that the meeting was legal. The assembled members began accusing the Board of fraud, and the atmosphere at the meeting became unpleasant.
One of the female members took the initiative and demanded that the meeting be suspended. Faced with the members’ firm stance, the Board reluctantly gave in and suspended the General Meeting.
A letter from the Board of the “Bolesławianka” Housing Cooperative dated May 23 states: “The Board […] apologizes for the inconvenience related to the need to convene the General Meeting again due to shortcomings in notifying the members of Part II.”
“This meeting was not illegal,” explains Bolesławianka president Piotr Hetel. “We only failed to notify those members who, together with their community, left for another property manager last September. According to various interpretations of the law, we could do so. However, we do not want any ambiguity, which is why we are holding the general meeting again.”
The general meeting of the “Bolesławianka” Housing Cooperative will be repeated on June 17. The cooperative’s bylaws are to be amended then so that situations of this kind do not happen again.
