Every day, they look after our safety and secure sites affected by accidents and natural disasters. Volunteer firefighters, as they are known, are everywhere that the lives and property of Lower Silesia’s residents are at risk. To help them perform their duties even more effectively, the provincial government allocated PLN 1.5 million to purchase specialist equipment and technical furnishings for volunteer fire service units in the region. The assistance will go, among others, to Janowice Wielkie, Siedlęcin, Kłodzko, Marciszów, Międzybórz and Raciborowice.
“I wish you that the equipment purchased with the support of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship self-government would be used as rarely as possible. However, if it becomes necessary to use it, I am certain that it will serve the local community excellently and prove that investments in safety are always money well spent,” Marshal Cezary Przybylski said during a meeting with the heads of the municipalities that received funding.
The firefighters from Raciborowice (Warta Bolesławiecka municipality) will receive PLN 100,000 for the “purchase and delivery of a new medium rescue-and-firefighting vehicle with 4x4 drive.”
Between 2008 and 2013, with the support of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, 111 fire engines were purchased (including 37 light, 65 medium and 9 heavy vehicles), and 72 grants were awarded for the purchase of firefighting equipment.
This year’s “Improving Safety in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship” competition provides grants for 22 municipalities. Nineteen units received grants to purchase fire engines, while three municipalities will purchase firefighting equipment. The total funding provided across all seven editions of the competition amounts to more than PLN 12.5 million.
