An agreement was signed in Nowogrodziec between the Parish of Saints Peter and Paul, represented by Dean Krzysztof Słabicki, and the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Board, represented by Włodzimierz Chlebosz. Under the agreement, the investment involving the renovation of the roofing on the church building of Saints Peter and Paul in Nowogrodziec will receive co-financing.

The project is necessary because of the poor technical condition of the roofing. The wooden roof structure requires reinforcement and conservation of the truss elements. There is extensive material damage and biological corrosion of the wood, mainly fungal growth, which has led to a significant loss of load-bearing capacity. Part of the wooden structure is heavily damp due to the leaky tile covering. The tiles themselves, plain tiles laid in the so-called scallop pattern, are severely cracked and crumbling. They are also poorly secured, which not only allows water to leak into the building but also poses a danger to people passing nearby.

In addition, the sheet-metal flashings, drainage system (gutters and downpipes), and valleys, particularly where the chimney walls and dormers meet the roofs, require replacement. The building’s lightning-protection system also needs to be replaced, while damaged sections of the cornice and cracks in the exterior walls need to be repaired.

The renovation of the roof of the historic parish church in Nowogrodziec is undoubtedly an action that contributes to preserving cultural heritage, which represents our regional historical and cultural wealth. The funds were obtained thanks to the participation of the Municipality and City of Nowogrodziec in the “Izerskie Partnership” Local Action Group.
