The Central National Certification Office (CBCK) selected the winners based on an assessment of their contribution to the development of the industry market and the distinctions they had received. Key factors verifying the nominated entities included recommendations from business partners, marketing research results and reports by provincial inspectors.
The Bolesławiec-based PWiK company received a silver certificate. This distinction expresses recognition from the industry community and offers customers guidance on whom it is worth trusting, because the recipients’ operating standards guarantee reliability and certainty in concluded transactions and completed orders.
– This is PWiK’s second award, granted by the Central National Certification Office – says PWiK president Józef Król. – We are very pleased with both awards, especially because the laureates are selected by external companies. This guarantees the complete independence of the chapters granting these awards – Król adds.
2014 Investments
This year, the company is not slowing the pace of its investments. Together with the Rural Municipality, it is co-financing sewerage systems in Nowa Wieś and Lipiany at a cost of PLN 1.5 million. A substantial volume of work, worth nearly PLN 1 million, is being carried out in the Jana Pawła II housing estate (Piastów). This will include a new water supply network feeding five pressure-boosting stations. The water supply network on Wańkowicza Street is being replaced. The renovation of the sewerage system on Gałczyńskiego Street will continue.
PWiK is also investing in modernising its monitoring system. Thanks to the system, the company has managed to reduce water losses by 40%. In 2014, it will be integrated into a single system with Lwówek.
Lwówek – PWiK’s New Partner
– This year, we successfully expanded the area and scope of services provided by Bolesławiec’s PWiK – says President Józef Król. – In March, we signed a notarial deed under which Lwówek Śląski became a partner in our company. This means that fixed costs are spread over a larger volume of water supplied. For this reason, the price of water may fall or remain unchanged despite annual inflation. The company’s fixed costs will be divided among the municipalities. Bolesławiec and Lwówek Śląski will have separate tariffs.
Modern Water Treatment Plant in RakowiceCompletion of the major investment involving the modernisation of the water treatment plant in Rakowice is scheduled for June this year. Due to its location, this is a strategic water intake for the municipality. Rakowice lies outside the zone of KGHM’s negative influence. When the Kombinat begins mining copper ores in the Warta municipality area, nothing will threaten the security of water supplies, because the Rakowice water treatment plant is independent of the Kombinat’s planned activities.
– Rakowice is a rare example of a siphon water intake. Extracting water here is simple and inexpensive; this will also affect our finances, which will have a positive impact, from the perspective of our customers, on water prices in subsequent tariffs – says Józef Król.
PWiK obtained a loan for this purpose from WFOŚiGW, 10% of which may be forgiven if PWiK fulfils the obligations set out in the agreement. Rakowice will have 13 active deep wells, with an average depth of 30 metres, including four newly constructed wells and five rehabilitated ones. All the technology there will be replaced, including the tanks, as well as 14 large filter-media tanks for water treatment. The plant will be unmanned and fully automated. It will also have a modern automation control and monitoring system. As part of the use of new technologies, there will be a heat pump; heat from the water will be used to heat the facility and dry the filter hall.
