Lidia Geringer de Oedenberg was in Bolesławiec on Saturday. First, she visited a television studio, where she recorded an interview that will be broadcast on the local cable network in a week. Later, the MEP met with activists from the Democratic Left Alliance.
Lidia Geringer de Oedenberg spoke about the situation in Ukraine and the future of the European Union. She expressed concern that nationalist groups from various countries could contribute to the collapse of the Union. She also explained that it is difficult for the Union to respond quickly to events in Ukraine because the European community consists of many countries that must agree on a common policy.
The MEP also said that it was a mistake not to invite Russia to talks on Ukraine when politicians met with former President Yanukovych. In the MEP's view, Russia therefore showed that it can do whatever it wants without asking everyone and thereby create problems.
Lidia Geringer de Oedenberg will stand in the upcoming elections to the European Parliament. Another SLD candidate from our district, Alicja Janiec, who comes from Bolesławiec County, was also present at the meeting.
