The BOK gallery is hosting “Mimikra,” an exhibition of ceramic sculpture presenting works by Adam Abel. The artist, a participant in this year’s Ceramic-and-Sculpture Symposium, presented not only sculptures but also an animated film that complements them.

The title of the exhibition, “Mimikra,” comes from the Greek word mimikós and means imitation. The term is most commonly used in zoology to describe completely defenseless animals resembling, in colour or shape, animals capable of defending themselves. An example is flies that look like wasps.

Adam Abel emphasises that his animations and sculptures form a whole and explain one another. His films have been presented at festivals in Switzerland, Estonia and France. The prestigious awards they have received, including the Artistic Director’s Award at the WRO’95 Festival and first place for animation in the Young Electronics Art competition in 1993, 1994 and 1995, testify to their positive reception by audiences and critics. The exhibition in Bolesławiec will be open until 22 August.
