The latest developments in regional politics, concerning the creation of a new coalition arrangement in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Assembly by Civic Platform and Obywatelski Dolny Śląsk, will have an impact on Bolesławiec.
This is due to the coalition agreement, in which—inspired by Obywatelski Dolny Śląsk, an organisation associated with Wrocław mayor Rafał Dutkiewicz—the Bolesławiec bypass has been included. “We hope that in the next EU financial perspective, thanks to the ‘firm’ provision in the ROP, the eastern bypass (from the forester’s lodge to the Solidarność roundabout, together with the modernisation of Kościuszki Street and the modernisation of road 297 to Lwówek) will be built,” says Bolesławiec mayor Piotr Roman.
This bypass should divert north–south transit traffic on road 297 away from the city centre. Cars travelling from Świnoujście, Szczecin, Gorzów and Zielona Góra to Jelenia Góra and the border crossing at Jakuszyce will bypass the centre. The same applies to vehicles leaving the A4 motorway (Bolesławiec interchange) and the A18 (Golnice interchange).
The bypass will also facilitate access from the south, for example from Lwówek Śląski, to plants located in the Bolesławiec subzone of the Wałbrzych Special Economic Zone and in the Bolesławiec Economic Activity Zone. The bypass is also environmentally significant—it will reduce so-called low-level emissions in the very centre of Bolesławiec. It should also increase the economic value of land located nearby.
