The renovation of the townhouses is the result of grants awarded for conservation work on monuments entered in the register of monuments. The city budget has allocated PLN 1,550,000 to co-finance conservation, restoration and construction works.

The planned conservation work is intended to restore the damaged or altered building to its former architectural form and artistic and functional value. Applications for co-financing submitted by homeowners’ associations concern the renovation of façades, including the replacement of window and door joinery in the common areas of the townhouse. The associations that will receive funding are located at: Kościelna 9, Kościelna 10, Kościelna 11/12, Rynek 13/14, Prusa 1/2, Prusa 3 and Prusa 4.

Grants for conservation work have also been awarded to two parishes. The Roman Catholic Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help at pl. Zamkowy is carrying out the project “Renovation of the tower of the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help – Stage II of the conservation work” this year. The Roman Catholic Parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Nicholas at ul. Kościelna received a grant for the project “Protection against destruction and making the Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Nicholas in Bolesławiec – a cultural heritage site of great importance for the Polish, Czech and German borderland – accessible to European society; enhancing the status of the basilica as a centre of the religious, social and cultural life of the Polish, Czech and German borderland”.

The planned renovation work is being carried out on the basis of preserved archival materials in the form of plans, photographs and documentation approved by the Voivodeship Conservator of Monuments, using original details and renovation materials.

It is worth recalling that the renovations are being carried out as part of the “New Old Town” programme. The “New Old Town” programme was adopted by the Bolesławiec City Council in 2006. One of the programme’s stages is the renovation of the townhouses around the market square, the scope of which was divided into two parts: renovation of the roof truss and roofing, and renovation of the façades, stone details and architectural details, as well as filling in missing elements.

The homeowners’ association’s completion of the roof truss and roofing renovation is a condition for receiving co-financing for the façade renovation. Last year, funding was granted to associations at: Rynek 33/34, Rynek 29/30, Rynek 31/32, Rynek 24/25, Rynek 35, Rynek 26 and Sierpnia '80 1/2.

The “New Old Town” programme also included the renovation of the town hall, which involved, among other things, renovating the roof and façade, replacing the windows and external doors, drying out the building, renovating the rooms beneath the side staircases, restoring the stone portals built into the façade, cleaning the stone tower, illuminating the clock face on the tower, putting the existing drinking fountains back into operation, modernising the external stairs and installing a lift.

The project “Renovation and restoration of the façade of Bolesławiec Town Hall” received funding from the European Regional Development Fund under the Regional Operational Programme for the Lower Silesian Voivodeship for 2007–2013.
