The Chess Tournament for the II LO Director’s Cup is behind us. Eight chess players took part in the competition, which was addressed to middle-school students. Kacper Grela proved to be the best. Second place went to Michał Jóźków, while third place went to Wawrzyniec Oliwa (all three are representatives of Gimnazjum Samorządowe No. 2 in Bolesławiec).
For Michał, chess is above all fun; for Wawrzyniec, it is enjoyment and mental effort. “Playing chess improves memory,” emphasizes the tournament winner, who does not hide the fact that he would like to become a professional chess player or coach. Asked whether it is possible to make a living from this sport, he replied: “If you are good at something, you can make a living from anything.”
“I hope this event will be held regularly,” says Zbigniew Kaźmierski, an outstanding chess player, longtime chess arbiter and co-organizer of the tournament. He adds: “The BKS Bobrzanie chess section, operating at the Bolesławiec Cultural Center–International Ceramics Center, invites children, young people and adults to free chess lessons. Classes are held on Mondays and Thursdays from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.”
The tournament was held as part of the “Get to Know II LO” campaign. The cups and certificates were presented by Mirosław Sakowski, the institution’s director.
