At Wednesday’s city council session, councillors had the opportunity to review letters of support for establishing St. Maria de Mattias as the patron saint of Bolesławiec. Many residents believe that this saint should patronize our city. Maria de Mattias was the founder of the religious order of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ, which came to our city immediately after the war.

The Adorers of the Blood of Christ came to Poland from Yugoslavia in 1946—they were descendants of emigrants—and settled in Bolesławiec, Lower Silesia. The Adorers in Bolesławiec cared for the church, performed domestic work and provided catechesis, as well as running a kindergarten and a boarding school. The Bolesławiec Congregation of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ has been actively involved in the social and spiritual life of Bolesławiec for nearly sixty years.
