One of our readers asked us to publicize the issue. In an email to the editorial office, they wrote: “I would like to draw attention to the use of the Bolesławiec hotspot […]. The point is that the hotspots have parental controls […], but on the other hand, this is also control over adults (municipal control). Let us assume that a tourist from abroad comes to Bolesławiec for the Ceramics Festival, wants to use WiFi and has access to the Bolesławiec hotspot. They want to share their impressions on the social networking site Facebook, and what happens? The poor tourist cannot access one single website.”
They added: “What kind of control is this? Is it really parental control? Or rather municipal control?”
We contacted Agnieszka Gergont, spokesperson for Bolesławiec City Hall, who denied that the Municipality of Bolesławiec was blocking access to Facebook on the hotspots.
We checked: the Daily Residence hotspot was not working at all on January 15 at around 12:00, while on the hotspots of Municipal School Complexes No. 1 and 2, some websites loaded and others did not—including the most popular social networking service.
We will return to the matter.
