The first edition of the Polish National MMA (mixed martial arts) Championships for Uniformed Services is now behind us. The competition took place on October 19–20 in Toruń. In the −73 kg category, first place in the country was won by Piotr Płotka, a competitor with the “Gladiator” Combat Sports Club in Bolesławiec and a soldier in the Świętoszów-based 10th Armored Cavalry Brigade.

“Piotr is definitely one of the most outstanding competitors,” says Przemysław Grecki from the Gladiator club. “He has been training at our club for a year and a half, but he took his first steps in MMA in Grudziądz, where he comes from.

“When I was 19, I went to an MMA training session, and after that I never missed one,” Piotr Płotka recalls. “What I liked most about MMA was its versatility: you can fight standing up or go to the ground, using wrestling techniques.

Asked which mixed martial arts competitors he respects most, the champion replied that Wanderlei Silva and Fedor Emelianenko. “They are already legends,” he added.

Over the next year, the Gladiator competitor plans to take part in amateur competitions; later, he would like to turn professional. The entire club is currently preparing for the Amateur MMA League, which will take place in December in Wrocław.
