A reader asked us to publicize the matter. In an email to the editorial office, she wrote:
After speaking with officials from the District Roads Authority and reporting the failure of the retaining wall by the street, unfortunately, we received neither any assistance nor a specific answer as to whom the wall belongs. As usual in our city, nobody knows anything and everyone avoids responsibility. There is a substantial breach in the wall, and water from the street flows through it straight onto the allotments because the sewer system is in terrible condition and cannot handle large amounts of water [...].
It is now unclear what to do about all this, because neither the District Roads Authority nor the allotment garden management is saying anything and they are merely shaking their heads. Nobody has taken any interest in our gardens so far, and we ourselves have no way to pump the water out because the fire brigade has too many calls.
We will return to the matter.
