In June this year, we wrote that the four runners from the Janusz Korczak II General Secondary School in Bolesławiec – for the second year in a row! – proved to be the best in the Swedish relay event at the Lower Silesian Athletics Championships. Kamil Igras, Marek Mikułko, Mateusz Więcek and Maciej Goss advanced to the Polish Championships, where they took eleventh place.

“Last year our runners finished fifth in the country,” says Krzysztof Malina, a physical education teacher. “This year, one of the runners fell during the heat of the competition. No one is to blame; that is sport. This is a very good relay team, and next year we will try to avoid such bad luck. The girls from I LO, who also advanced to the national stage, took fourth place. We congratulate them on their result.”

In May, we reported that a team from the Janusz Korczak II General Secondary School in Bolesławiec took first place in a competition organized by the Wrocław University of Economics as part of the “Be Enterprising” project. The team’s final presentation (the team consisted of Adrian Fehring-Dworak, Magdalena Broszko, Krystian Fecyk and Marcin Kołodziej – all are members of the school’s entrepreneurship basics club, whose supervisor is teacher Dorota Kurowska) had been prepared down to the smallest detail. It concerned the “Science Lab” Interactive Science Centre.

“I came up with the idea at the beginning of the school year, and then we worked on it together in April,” Adrian Fehring-Dworak from class I a told us at the time. “That was when the final version of the ISC was created. We want to present students from various schools with experiments in natural sciences, especially physics.”

It is worth adding that Adrian took 11th place in the first edition of the nationwide “Astrolabium” Astronomy Competition, organized by the Foundation for the Jagiellonian University and the Academy of Astronomy.

Moreover, the idea of the “Science Lab” Interactive Science Centre is being put into practice. “We are renovating the room where the centre will be located and buying equipment. I have also spoken with the teachers who will conduct classes there next school year,” lists Mirosław Sakowski, the head of II LO, who is making Adrian’s idea a reality. “The room will be professionally equipped, and experiments from many fields of science will be possible there,” the secondary-school student adds.

We will return to this topic.
