13-year-old Julia Gołębiowska, a student of the Witold Lutosławski State Music School, first level, in Bolesławiec, took first place in the performance competition held as part of the 1st Ostrów Clarinet and Saxophone Forum. Julia performed works by Claude Debussy and Borys Lomani.
Interestingly, the laureate initially did not want to play the saxophone. It was by chance that she began learning to play the instrument. However, as she admits herself, she likes the saxophone more and more. Much of the credit goes both to her uncle, a lover of jazz and John Coltrane's music, and to her teacher, Mateusz Boduch.
“We work together very well. Julia has both a good ear and talent,” says the first-level PSM teacher. “The beginnings are always the most difficult, but year by year playing the saxophone will bring her more and more joy.”
The young saxophonist was accompanied in Ostrów Wielkopolski by the distinguished conductor Aleksander Samostrokov, who received a diploma “for outstanding accompaniment.”
