– From September, II General Secondary School will have an elevator – says Mirosław Sakowski, the school’s head. It will be the first upper-secondary school adapted for people with disabilities. – For a long time, we have monitored the number of middle-school students who have difficulty walking or use wheelchairs – emphasizes Alicja Krzyszczak, head of the Education, Culture, Physical Culture and Sport Department of the Bolesławiec County Office. – After all, these students also have the right to a full education.
Since students with disabilities have the greatest chances of obtaining a general education, the county authorities decided to install an elevator in one of Bolesławiec’s general secondary schools. The choice fell on II LO named after Janusz Korczak. – It will be easiest to install this type of lift there – states Alicja Krzyszczak. – The elevator will be added on the side facing Konstytucji 3 Maja Street. Students with disabilities will have no problem reaching any of the school’s floors.
The investment will cost nearly PLN 170,000. The funds come from the budget of Bolesławiec County. A contractor for the design documentation has already been selected. Construction of the elevator will probably begin as early as May.
