The mayor of Bolesławiec received 21 applications for grants for conservation work on buildings entered in the register of historic monuments. Some applications were rejected because they failed to meet formal and substantive requirements. Nine complete applications were selected to receive grants. In each case, the application concerns a building of high historical and cultural value.
This year, grants for renovating facades, including the replacement of window and door joinery in the shared areas of tenement buildings, were awarded to seven housing associations:
- Rynek 33/34
- Rynek 29/30
- Rynek 31/32
- Rynek 24/25
- Rynek 35
- Rynek 26
- Sierpnia '80 1/2.
Grants for conservation work were also awarded to two parishes. The Roman Catholic Parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Nicholas at 3 Kościelna Street will receive funding for the project entitled “Emergency renovation of the roof of the Caritas building at Kościelna Street.” The Roman Catholic Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help at Zamkowy Square will receive a grant for the “Renovation of the tower with the replacement of galvanized sheet metal with copper.” The proposed work aims to renovate the roofing of the church tower’s spire and partially repair the masonry surfaces. The construction of the tower of the former Protestant church—today dedicated to Our Lady of Perpetual Help—was the first project by Engelhardt Gansel, one of the best-known builders from Bolesławiec.
It is worth recalling that in 2009 the provincial conservator of historic monuments issued a notice defining the extent and boundaries of the Old Town area and entering it in the register of historic monuments. This decision expanded the group of beneficiaries eligible to receive grants from the city budget for conservation work.
Over the past two years, grants were awarded to housing associations at the following addresses: Rynek 1–12, Prusa 14/15, Plac Zamkowy 1, Prusa 33, Rynek 15/16, Rynek 28, Rynek 22/23, Rynek 19/21 and Rynek 17/18. Grants were also awarded for replacing window joinery and creating stained-glass windows in the church at Plac Zamkowy, as well as for continuing the conservation of the Baroque interior decoration of the church at Kościelna Street.
Renovation work is carried out on the basis of preserved archival materials—plans, photographs and documentation approved by the provincial conservator of historic monuments—and using original details and renovation materials. The grant process, conducted in the Old Town Market Square area, is one element of the Local Revitalization Plan for Bolesławiec, implemented with the participation of housing associations.
