On Sunday, the Christmas market was held in the Market Square, where visitors could buy colorful baubles, Christmas tree decorations and all kinds of delicacies, including those traditionally prepared for Christmas Eve dinner. The scent of Christmas filled the air, putting everyone gathered there in a festive mood.
Musical ensembles performed on stage: the Gminny Zespół Pieśni i Tańca „Jutrzenka”, which managed to attract a sizeable audience despite the bad weather, Studio Piosenki, led by Agata Pińczuk-Burdzy, the Poeticon ensemble and Pracownia Wokalna Barbary Lendzian. The event concluded with a wonderful performance by the Miejska Orkiestra Dęta „Bolesławiec”.
After the concerts, prizes were presented to the winners of a competition organized by BOK-MCC for the best Christmas card design. The main prize went to Julia Zatylny, a 10-year-old from Nowe Jaroszowice.
Santa Claus read stories to children and adults in a special Santa’s House, assisted by charming female Santas. The children eagerly listened to the stories, viewed the illustrations and commented on their content. In addition to fairy-tale stories, sweet gifts were also waiting for them.
As every year, the nativity scene with live animals proved hugely popular—among children and teenagers as well as adults. Everyone wanted to pet the animals and take their picture.
Another item on the program was an open-air performance by Teatr 4 Żywioły. The action took place in the nativity scene in Bethlehem, the workshop and home of Joseph and Mary, and King Herod’s palace. The actors also performed the carols “Mizerna cicha”, “Lulajże Jezuniu” and “Cicha noc”. Artificial flames, fireworks, torches and stilt walkers were undoubtedly highlights of their performance.
After the performance, Mayor Piotr Roman, BOK-MCC director Ewa Lijewska-Małachowska and City Council Chair Józef Pokładek extended their good wishes to the residents of Bolesławiec. A special blessing was delivered by the parish priest of the MBNP parish, Prelate Dr. Stanisław Kusik. Then all the residents gathered in the Market Square exchanged good wishes and shared the Christmas wafer.
The final attraction of the day was the “Birth Concert”. It featured Olga Szomańska, Janusz Radek and Jacek Wójcicki at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
