The tolerance observance, established in 1995 by the United Nations General Assembly, is celebrated annually on November 16. On this day, the children from the branch of Municipal Kindergarten No. 3 dressed in unusual costumes.
The preschool ceremony, prepared by teachers Iwona Witczak and Dorota Berestecka, provided an opportunity to make the children aware of the similarities and differences between people and to broaden their knowledge about the lives of people on other continents. The shared activities were also intended to foster mutual integration.
At the beginning of the ceremony, the preschoolers learned the meaning of the word tolerance, tried to define the concept in their own way, and then arranged the word “tolerance” using large foam puzzle pieces.
Then, to the rhythm of the song “All Children Are Ours,” the youngsters played at travelling by train and airplane. In this way, they visited successive continents.
The children also learned poems and interesting facts about the lives of Indians, cowboys, Pygmies, Japanese, Chinese and Eskimos. They also greatly enjoyed music-based games such as “Jungle,” “Jony Is Riding,” “Japanese Steps” and “Eskimo Noses.”
The preschoolers also took part in a chopsticks-eating contest. Lena Matyjewicz won it, handling rice and fruit with bamboo chopsticks perfectly. The ceremony ended with a shared dance to a song about tolerance: “Whether fat or thin / Whether small or big / Everyone likes to play / So whoever is here with us / Find a partner.”
Finally, a group commemorative photograph was taken. The children’s work, displayed in the kindergarten hall under the slogan “Each of Us Is Different,” was later admired by their parents.
After such a wonderful day, which brought them much joy and many impressions, the preschoolers from the MPP No. 3 Branch will certainly remember that every person is different and unique and, regardless of origin, culture or religion, deserves respect and acceptance.
