Saving the art of letter writing from oblivion – that is the idea behind the organizers of the “Letter” literary competition. The theme of this year’s edition was “Returns” – its interpretation was left to the participants. The Szczecin branch of the Polish Writers’ Union assumed patronage over the event. The letters were assessed by a competition committee consisting of: Róża Czerniawska-Karcz, poet and head of the Szczecin branch of the Polish Writers’ Union, Barbara Teresa Dominiczak, poet, and Rafał Podraza, poet and journalist.
The first prize in the 10–13 age category went to Katarzyna Kupiec from Szczecin. The second prize went to Bartosz Kunaszko from Bolesławiec. The distinction went to Weronika Olszewska from Szczecin. The jury also awarded a special prize for literary and epistolographic qualities. It was received by Natalia Kuśmierz from Nowogrodziec.
Among those aged 14–15, the best letter was written by Marta Ziółkowska from Bolesławiec. The second prize was won by Małgorzata Suchowiejska from Szczecin. The third prize went to Magdalena Honkiewicz from Golszewo.
In the 16-and-over category, no first prize was awarded. Second place went to Bolesławiec resident Anna Guzik, while third place went to Szczecin resident Nela Mikosza. The jury also awarded four distinctions. They went to: Elżbieta Erban from Bolesławiec, Alicja Płoszańska from Jelenia Góra, Anna Słowińska from Police, and Marta Zawadzka from Szczecin.
Among the winners and those receiving distinctions, the jury took note of letters displaying calligraphic qualities – written with a pen, in careful, legible handwriting, in accordance with all the rules of calligraphy. Their authors are: Weronika Olszewska, Magdalena Honkowicz, Nela Mikosza and Alicja Płoszańska. In the calligraphy category, according to the competition committee, the standouts were: Gabriela Kumorowska (Szczecin) and Dominik Chlastawa (Lubków, Raciborowice).
The Istotne.pl service is the competition’s media patron. We will publish the winning letters in December in our pages.
