The competition, which aimed to test how much students from Bolesławiec secondary and lower-secondary schools knew about renewable energy sources, was organized by ZSE in Bolesławiec and co-financed by the Wrocław Regional Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.

Thirty students representing 15 schools from Bolesławiec County took part in the first stage of the competition. Eleven people qualified for the final.

Among the finalists was a team from the Zespół Szkół Mechanicznych in Bolesławiec (Patryk Barecki and Tomek Cieślak). In the final standings, after an additional round, first place went to a third-year student of the Mechatronics Technical School, Patryk Barecki.

This victory was not accidental. For several years, during vocational-subject classes, students of the Mechatronics Technical School have been acquiring knowledge both about operating devices that control renewable energy sources and about the devices themselves. In the previous school year, Zespół Szkół Mechanicznych took the initiative to open a renewable energy sources technician program. However, due to a lack of interest among local employers, suggestions from the school’s governing authority and the slim chances that graduates would find employment in the future, work related to opening the program was abandoned.

Zespół Szkół Mechanicznych provides education in the broad-profile profession of mechatronics technician, in which students acquire knowledge of engineering design and graphics, electronics, information technology, automation and robotics. For several years now, the curriculum has also included issues related to renewable energy sources.

These efforts produce tangible results, one of which is Patryk Barecki’s victory in the Renewable Energy Sources Competition.
