Eight Poles, winners of the "My Family Tree" competition, and eight Germans will take part in the project. The remaining six participants will be supervisors, lecturers and translators. The joint educational project has been divided into two parts. The stay in Poland is scheduled for July 10–15. The following five days will be spent in Germany. Participation in the project will cost approximately 150 zlotys per person.
The project’s program is very extensive. It includes, among other activities, visits to the Gross Rosen concentration camp and the Church of Peace in Świdnica, as well as a full-day trip to Wrocław. During their stay in Germany, participants will be able to visit the House of the History of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bonn and the Siebengebirge Museum. A meeting with former residents of Bolesławiec who now live in Siegburg is also planned, along with a visit to the local County Office and St. Michael’s Hill. A rafting trip on the Sieg River will be another major attraction.
Young people from both countries will have an opportunity to gain a better understanding of their shared history, traditions and culture. They will learn about the dangers associated with subjective interpretations of past events. In addition, they will learn about the contemporary threat posed by nationalist groups. The project also aims to identify ways of cooperating, communicating and resolving group conflicts.
The educational project "A Shared Past – A Shared Future" is being carried out jointly by the Department of Education, Culture, Physical Culture and Sport of the Bolesławiec County Office and the Youth Affairs Office of the Siegburg County Office.
