As part of the Population-Based Early Detection of Breast Cancer Programme, funded by the National Health Fund, women aged 50 to 69 will be able to undergo free breast examinations upon presenting an identity card.
Women under 50 or over 69 (but not younger than 35) may also have an examination in the mobile mammography unit, but for a fee (PLN 80). They must also bring a referral from a doctor. The examination will be available in the mobile mammography unit in Nowogrodziec (13 August), in the car park by the Municipal Office, and in Osiecznica (14 August), in the car park by the Commune Office.
Women who wish to have the examination must register in advance by calling 801 080 007 or 58 6662 444, or via the FADO website.
Mammography, an X-ray examination of the breasts, is an effective method for diagnosing early signs of breast cancer. Early detection of this cancer provides an almost 100% chance of curing the disease, which is why regular examinations are worthwhile. Moreover, mammography is a safe examination performed using a minimal dose of X-ray radiation.
The examinations are performed by FADO Centrum Usług Medycznych from Gdynia, which uses mobile mammography units to conduct them.
