The incident occurred on a tourist trail in Ojców. Two school groups were walking along the trail—one from Bolesławiec, from Primary School No. 4, and the other from Pacanów, in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, comprising several dozen people in total.

At one point, a tree fell onto the children as they were walking, and two people were seriously injured. Unfortunately, the teenage girl from Bolesławiec died despite several dozen minutes of resuscitation. A girl from Pacanów is in hospital with an open fracture.

“The children had been on the trip since Wednesday. They were all supposed to return today,” one of the mothers of the pupils who had travelled to Małopolska told us.

The causes of the tree’s collapse are not yet known. The park management reports that two trees fell; one was approximately 40 years old and the other approximately 60 years old. The trees grew beside the trail and were 15–20 metres tall. It is possible that their roots were slightly rotten.
