The Lower Silesia Euro 2012 finals were held on 5 May in Wrocław. Thirty-two teams attended – the winners of the earlier qualifying rounds. The main trophy was the cup of the Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. Bolesławiec County was represented by the orliks of BKS Bobrzanie Bolesławiec. The tournament lineup was truly impressive; it is enough to mention several teams against which our boys were to compete: WKS Śląsk Wrocław, KS Polkowice, Chrobry Głogów, SP 9 Dzierżoniów, Konfeks Legnica, Parasol Wrocław, Pogoń Oleśnica, Fair-Play Wrocław, Chojnik Jelenia Góra, Górnik Wałbrzych, Polonia Środa Śląska and many others from smaller football centers. The teams were divided into 8 groups. Group H included Polonia Środa Śląska, Fair-Play Wrocław, Pogoń Góra and BKS Bobrzanie Bolesławiec.
BKS results:
- Pogoń Góra – BKS Bolesławiec 2:4 (BKS goals: Paleń 2, Puzio and Rissmann)
- Fair-Play Wrocław – BKS Bolesławiec 1:3 (Paleń, D. Kowalonek, J. Kowalonek)
- Polonia Środa Śląska – BKS Bolesławiec 0:2 (Paleń, Puzio)
A perfect record gave the charges of Mirosław Szapiel first place in the group. According to the tournament bracket, in the round of 16 the young players from Bolesławiec faced the second team from Group G, WKS Śląsk Wrocław Filia Milicz. After a fiercely contested match, the young players from Bolesławiec defeated the Milicz branch of the Polish champion 1:0 (goal by Paleń). In the quarterfinal, the draw paired BKS with the eventual finalist, SP 9 Dzierżoniów. It must be admitted that the young players from Dzierżoniów were better than BKS and deservedly won 1:0. With this match, the Bolesławiec orliks ended their tournament.
We have 5th place in Lower Silesia
That was not the end of the excitement, however, because the tournament bracket paired two teams in the final that BKS had previously had the opportunity to play. SP 9 Dzierżoniów faced Polonia Środa Śląska. After a fiercely contested match that went to extra time, Polonia Środa Śląska won 2:1. After this match, our orliks felt a certain sense of dissatisfaction, because BKS was the only team that defeated Polonia that day. Moreover, they did so without conceding a goal, something no one else managed apart from us. The organizers ultimately ranked BKS 5th, which should be regarded as a major success for the boys training at BKS. The players of Polonia Środa Śląska won. SP 9 Dzierżoniów took second place. WKS Śląsk Wrocław and UKS Gryf Świdnica took the next places.
