The latest edition of the competition for the mayor’s award for the best master’s or doctoral theses on the history and present-day life of our city, defended during the 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 academic years at all public and non-public universities in Poland and abroad, was decided on 17 December at the Museum of Ceramics.
Five papers were submitted to the competition. The jurors (comprising: Prof. Grzegorz Strauchold, Prof. Waldemar Tyc, Prof. Robert Masztalski, Jerzy Zieliński and Jacek Dudyński) did not award first prize. Second place went to Alicja Karolina Stempniewicz for the paper “The Use of European Funds by Local Government on the Example of the Urban Municipality of Bolesławiec” (Wrocław University of Economics, Faculty of Regional Economy and Tourism). The winner received PLN 2,000. Agnieszka Smulczyńska won third prize (PLN 1,000) for “An Assessment of the Impact of National Road No. 4 on the Development of Bolesławiec” (Wrocław University of Technology, Faculty of Architecture).
An additional prize was awarded to Kamilla Dudek for the paper “Bolesławiec Painted in Words and Images.” Excerpts from the text will be published in the “Bolesławiec Yearbook.”
