Our Reader asked us to publicize the matter. The letter he received from the “Bolesławianka” Housing Cooperative states: “The Cooperative [...] informs you that an analysis of thermal energy consumption was prepared for the period 01.01.2011–30.06.2011. Your property demonstrated lower consumption than in the corresponding period of the previous year. We inform you that the cost of heating 1 m² in the first half of 2011 amounted to PLN 1.89/m², with advance payments of PLN 2.01/m². The consequence of increased costs will be an underpayment in the annual settlement [podkreślenia pochodzą od redakcji]”.
“This is how we remind people that they should save heat. The final sentence is a warning so that cooperative residents do not use excessive amounts of thermal energy,” explains Piotr Hetel, head of the “Bolesławianka” Housing Cooperative. “If they do not save, an underpayment will certainly appear,” he adds.
The problem is that the cooperative unfortunately placed this sentence in the same paragraph, immediately after the information that people had used less energy. Many could therefore have understood that even though they heated less, they would still pay more. In fact, this is only a warning about the possible consequences of failing to save energy in the future.
When asked whether this type of warning would have the desired effect, the president replied that “one has to try.” And what do our Readers think about the matter? We invite you to join the discussion.
