The Chief Sanitary Inspectorate has published a public warning concerning one batch of blue poppy seeds sold in Dino stores. As a result of an official inspection, the maximum permissible level of opium alkaloids was found to have been exceeded. According to the risk assessment prepared by experts from the National Institute of Public Health PZH – National Research Institute, consuming the specified batch of the product may pose a health risk to consumers.

Which product was withdrawn?

The warning concerns the following product:

  • Product: Blue poppy seeds, 500 g
  • Batch number: P-5767/01
  • Best-before date: 05.2027
  • Produced in the EU for: Dino Polska S.A.
  • Manufacturer: ROS-SWEET Sp. z o.o.

If you have a product with the stated batch number, it should not be consumed.

What was detected?

During an inspection by the State Sanitary Inspection, the maximum permissible level of opium alkaloids in poppy seeds was found to have been exceeded. Based on the experts’ analysis, it was determined that consuming the product from batch P-5767/01 may pose a health risk.

The announcement concerns only the specified batch of the product. This does not automatically mean that other batches of the same product are covered by the warning.

What action was taken?

The Dino chain reported that the disputed batch had been blocked at distribution centres and withdrawn from sale in all stores belonging to the chain.

The manufacturer, ROS-SWEET Sp. z o.o., informed its customers that the procedure for withdrawing the product from the market and disposing of it had begun due to the health risk to consumers.

At the same time, the State Sanitary Inspection authorities are conducting an explanatory investigation and monitoring the withdrawal of the product from the market.

Advice for consumers

GIS unequivocally recommends not consuming 500 g blue poppy seeds with batch number P-5767/01 and best-before date 05.2027.

People who have this product at home should check the markings on the packaging. The warning applies only to the batch specified in the announcement.
