A resident of Nowogrodziec Municipality reported an alleged financial investment scam to the police. The story began with an online advertisement that was supposed to lead to quickly multiplying his money. Instead of profits, there were losses and the loss of access to his own banking services.
According to the findings, the man became interested in the offer and contacted a “company representative” offering investment services. After the initial conversations, he paid an initial amount and began receiving information about allegedly generated profits.
Over time, the person presenting himself as a financial analyst began persuading the victim to make further payments. Contact took place repeatedly, and the caller used a different telephone number each time, creating an impression of professional service and credibility.
According to the reporting party, the fake adviser also provided detailed instructions concerning actions to be performed on the computer. He explained that they were necessary to manage the investment and later withdraw the funds allegedly earned.
At a certain point, the situation began to raise doubts in the resident of Nowogrodziec Municipality, who decided to withdraw from further activity. Shortly afterward, a transfer was made from his account to a foreign account, and access to his online banking and computer was blocked.
As a result of the scammers’ actions, the man lost PLN 3,000.
Police officers remind the public that online advertisements promising quick and high returns are often used by criminals to obtain money and data. Before deciding to invest, it is worth carefully checking the company and not providing login details or authorization codes, or installing remote-access software on devices at the request of unknown individuals.
Particular caution is warranted when the caller applies time pressure, encourages further payments, or contacts someone from multiple different telephone numbers. These are among the most common warning signs of investment scams.
