We have survived a lot. Now we have lost our home
There are moments when a person feels that fate has already taken enough. Unfortunately, another blow has come to our family.
A few days ago, a fire broke out, destroying the upper floor of our house, where I lived with my son Marcin. Although the walls of the building are still standing, the interior was completely destroyed. The rooms require extensive renovation, replacement windows and new furnishings. In an instant, we lost the place that had been our safe home for years.
But she immediately adds: – The greatest relief is that no one was hurt. Today we have found shelter on the ground floor of the house, where my father lives. Unfortunately, the cost of rebuilding is enormous and beyond our financial means.
Not the first tragedy
Ms Iwona:
A few years ago, I lost my husband. After a long and difficult battle with illness—first a brain tumor and later leukemia—he passed away just one week after our youngest son Marcin’s 18th birthday. It was a blow that took us a very long time to recover from.
And she adds:
When it seemed that the worst was behind us, another tragedy struck. My son Marcin was involved in a very serious accident and miraculously survived. For many weeks we lived in fear for his life, and every new day was a great unknown. The road back to health proved long and extremely difficult. Unfortunately, he still feels the effects of that day, and his health does not allow him to work or return to the life he led before the accident.
She also explains:
To support the household and cover everyday expenses, I took a job abroad. The fire broke out just as I was traveling to Poland for a holiday. It was meant to be a time for rest and meetings with my loved ones. Instead, we had to face another tragedy.
All my life, I have tried to cope on my own. It has never been easy for me to ask for help, and it is still very difficult. Today, however, I know that without the support of kind-hearted people, we will not be able to rebuild what the fire took from us.
She also appeals: – Every donation, every share of the fundraiser and every kind word mean a great deal to us. Thank you for every form of support and for the kindness you have shown.
