A report of the accident reached the duty officer at the District Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec on Saturday morning. Officers from the Police Station in Węgliniec were sent to the scene and initially determined that the driver had failed to adjust his speed to the road conditions. As a result, he lost control of the car and ended his journey off the roadway.
Road traffic police officers and a forensic technician also worked at the scene, securing evidence and carrying out activities aimed at clarifying the exact circumstances of the incident.
Provincial road No. 296, particularly the section between Węgliniec and Czerwona Woda, has been one of the most dangerous routes in the region for years. Serious accidents, including fatal ones, occur there regularly. Police statistics show that excessive speed and failure to adjust it to road conditions are among the most common causes of such incidents.
Police are appealing to drivers to exercise good judgment and caution. The forested nature of the route, numerous bends and changing road-surface grip require particular concentration behind the wheel. A moment of haste can cost health or even life.
