Let us recall. A reader informed us about an injured bird above the municipal pond in Bolesławiec. During a Sunday walk near the pond, the reader noticed it on a footbridge leading to an island.

The black-and-white bird with a characteristic, curved beak was a male goosander. This species belongs to the duck family and feeds mainly on small fish, which it catches while diving.

Our reader’s attention was drawn to the left side of the animal’s head. As the photos showed, the bird had no eye, and there was a large wound or scar from an injury in its place. The goosander’s condition indicated serious injuries that had most likely been making it difficult for the bird to function for some time.

Unfortunately, the bird did not survive. It turned out that the injury (illness) was so serious that the organism could not cope with it.
