On February 11, 2026, the District Court in Legnica handed down a guilty verdict against former court bailiff Agnieszka W. She was sentenced to 11 months’ imprisonment, conditionally suspended for three years. She must also pay a PLN 17,500 fine.
– Most importantly, however, the court ordered the defendant to compensate 244 injured parties in the total amount of approximately PLN 288,000 and ordered the defendant to pay the costs of the proceedings – emphasizes Liliana Łukasiewicz of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica.
The indictment in this case was filed by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica on June 27, 2025.
The spokesperson adds: – The court, taking into consideration the defendant’s situation from the perspective of all sentencing directives, shared the prosecutor’s view that a custodial sentence was appropriate (the prosecutor had requested a sentence of one year and six months’ imprisonment). At the same time, the court found that an appropriate sentence would be 11 months’ imprisonment and that there were grounds for conditionally suspending it.
Why? Liliana Łukasiewicz: – In the court’s assessment, the sentence imposed will enable the defendant to earn an income and thus give her the opportunity to fulfill the obligation imposed on her to compensate the 244 injured parties and pay the fine. The financial liability imposed on the defendant will be a real hardship for her, from which she will not be able to escape.
What will the prosecutor’s office do?
The prosecutor agreed with the above view and will not appeal in this case.
