At the request of the District Prosecutor in Zgorzelec, the court ordered three months of pre-trial detention for a 42-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County, suspected of unlawfully depriving his partner of her freedom. This lasted longer than 7 days and, according to investigators, was “combined with particular cruelty, consisting of beating her and causing bodily injuries resulting in a health disorder lasting more than 7 days.” What is more, the man will also face charges of forcing his partner to submit to another sexual act.

– As established, from 20 December 2025 to 8 January 2026, the suspect held his 28-year-old partner against her will in an apartment. During this time, he verbally abused her using vulgar and commonly recognized insulting words, threatened to kill her, punched and kicked her in the head and all over her body, and burned her with a water heater around the chest, abdomen and legs – reports Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska, press spokesperson for the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra. – Moreover, he led the victim out into the snow and rolled her in it. He also forced her to submit to another sexual act.

The suspect only partially admitted to the alleged offense—more precisely, to hitting the victim in the face with his hand and insulting her with abusive words. He gave an explanation.

The man, who had already been convicted by the courts several times, including for robbery and theft, now faces up to 25 years in prison.
