A frozen pond may look safe, but in reality it is very easy for an accident to happen. At the municipal pond in Bolesławiec, footprints are visible—someone crossed the barriers and stepped onto the ice in several places. Worse still, there also appear to be children's footprints.

This is very worrying. The ice on the pond is not the same thickness everywhere. In one place it may seem strong, while a short distance away it may be thin and break easily. Even if the pond is not deep, falling into freezing water is extremely dangerous.

Cold water can cause shock; a person quickly loses strength and may be unable to get out onto the shore unaided. Such an incident is especially dangerous for children and could end in tragedy.

Crossing the barriers and stepping onto the ice sets a bad example for others. Seeing the footprints, someone may think it is safe and also go onto the pond.

We appeal to the residents of Bolesławiec: do not go onto the frozen pond and do not allow children to do so. Pay attention to the danger and react when you see such situations. Walking around the pond is safe, but going onto the ice could end in misfortune.
