The incident occurred during the night of December 23–24 on the Piastów estate in Bolesławiec. At around 10:30 p.m., the driver of a passenger car was speeding along Jana Pawła II Street. After passing the intersection with Wańkowicza Street, he suddenly braked and began reversing forcefully. During the maneuver, he crashed into a car parked along the street and fled down Wańkowicza Street.
The owner of the parked car happened to be under the apartment building and, when he realized what had happened, began chasing the fleeing vehicle. Unfortunately, he did not catch it.
The entire incident was recorded by a residential surveillance camera.
– If a parked vehicle is damaged by an unknown perpetrator, the car owner may report the damage under their comprehensive insurance policy, if they have one. The perpetrator’s third-party liability insurance does not apply in such a situation until the perpetrator is identified. It is advisable to secure the scene, take photographs of the damage, and check whether there are surveillance cameras in the area that could help establish the course of events later – says Andrzej Izdebski, an insurance agent.
