On the 44th anniversary of the imposition of martial law, residents of Bolesławiec gathered in Wolności Square, at the “Solidarity” monument, to commemorate together those who—often at the cost of their own freedom, health or even lives—stood up in defense of dignity and civil rights.
The ceremony was attended by Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman, who, together with representatives of local governments, members of NSZZ “Solidarity,” the Association of Anti-Communist Opposition Activists “Niezłomni,” and representatives of Bolesławiec organizations and institutions, paid symbolic tribute to the heroes of those events.
The moving and reflective ceremony was led by Honorary Citizen of the City and Bolesławiec Solidarity activist Jan Filipek.
The gathering at the monument, whose message—“Overcome evil with good”—has for years recalled the spiritual strength of August ’80, provided an opportunity to pause and reflect on a history that continues to shape the present.
