Last December, we wrote that two new buildings belonging to the Social Housing Association had been built on Śluzowa Street in Bolesławiec. The contractor for the PLN 12 million project was a company from Zielona Góra. “The buildings are new and people are generally satisfied; there are some defects, admittedly, but they are being dealt with on an ongoing basis,” the reader wrote in an email to the editorial office. He added: “Residents began moving in in December 2010, when there was still snow everywhere. However, when it began to melt, the remains left by the construction and construction workers appeared before our eyes—rubbish all around […], the area looks like a construction site.”
“Spring came, and everyone hoped that when the snow melted, someone would take an interest in this mess. Unfortunately, those hopes proved unfounded. Traces left by heavy equipment and rubbish began to disappear beneath thick grass, but the problem did not disappear at all,” the man stated. “Traces left by heavy equipment and uneven, deep ruts are visible on the estate. There is no road to the bus stop (next to the cemetery); you can get there only across the ‘field’. There is also no road leading to the main streets—there are only paths worn by residents [podkreślenie pochodzi od Czytelnika – przyp. red.],” he pointed out.
A road roller will come and...
Ilona Suchecka, head of the Bolesławiec Social Housing Association, explains that the project's contractor has undertaken, under the warranty, to clean up the area. “The company is not evading this obligation at all. At the end of this month, its employees are to level the area and sow grass again,” the TBS president emphasizes.
As for the construction of new roads on the estate, however, residents will have to be patient. As Ilona Suchecka points out, the city's budget for this year contains no funds for that purpose. “Perhaps it will be possible to include this project in next year's budget,” she adds.
