Free lectures for parents and teachers will be organized in Bolesławiec on the dangers of cyberspace (the internet, computer games, etc.). They will be led by Prof. Józef Bednarek, PhD, DSc, a pedagogue, educator and media studies expert, and Dr Anna Andrzejewska, an educator specializing in computer and media education and an expert on the dangers of cyberspace.

We have covered cyberbullying in Bolesławiec in our pages. In the program “Into the Light,” Krzysztof Gwizdała spoke with school pedagogue Teresa Rudzińska. The case concerned a teenager from Bolesławiec who posted a doctored video on YouTube. It showed photographs of the school buildings on Komuny Paryskiej Street. Two controversial scenes were shown in the video. The first depicted simulated oral sex; in the second, a masked boy ran into a classroom and exposed himself.

The average parent is unaware that television, a computer, the internet or a mobile phone, as well as modern toy robots, can be sources of addiction. Parents and, often, teachers do not have sufficient knowledge of how to diagnose cyberspace addiction and therefore cannot respond properly when symptoms of addiction appear. Doctors do not pay attention to certain illnesses that may result from irrational use of electronic devices.

If you do not know the names of computer games featuring sadistic scenes and banned in many countries, if you do not know your child’s online friends, if your child prefers the computer to the real world and this is convenient for you, or if you do not know how much time your son or daughter actually spends at the computer, equip yourself with the knowledge you need.
