Drivers face a significant change that will noticeably affect their wallets. As announced by the Ministry of Infrastructure and experts, an increase in the prices of mandatory vehicle inspections will soon take effect. It will be the first such change to the service price in... 21 years!
The current rates for technical inspections have remained unchanged since 2004. For more than two decades, the cost of a basic inspection of a passenger car was 98 zlotys. During this time, inflation and the rising costs of labor and maintaining vehicle inspection stations have drastically changed the economic reality. For years, vehicle inspection station owners have warned that maintaining high-quality services with frozen prices is becoming increasingly difficult, threatening road safety.
The new, updated rates for mandatory vehicle inspections are to take effect on September 19. Prices will increase to 149 zlotys per inspection. The increase is primarily intended to provide vehicle inspection stations with funds for investments in modern equipment, improving inspectors’ qualifications and covering rising operating costs.
Discussion about updating the price list had continued for years, but no government had decided to take this unpopular step. The current decision is intended to respond to the industry’s demands and concerns about the actual safety of vehicles traveling on Polish roads. Drivers can only wait for the official announcement and prepare for the upcoming changes.
