– As a result of joint operational activities, officers of the Customs and Tax Service from the Lower Silesian Customs and Tax Office in Wrocław (DUCS) and the Wrocław City Police Headquarters (KMP) shut down three illegal gambling venues in Wrocław. The premises operated under the cover of legal pubs and entertainment venues – reports Sebastian Polański, chief specialist in the Communications Department of the Tax Administration Chamber in Wrocław. – The activity was conducted without the required permit, in breach of the applicable legal regulations.

During the operation, the services secured 12 gambling machines and more than PLN 76,000 in cash, as well as narcotic substances.

Moreover, officers detained five people in connection with running illegal gambling parlours. Four people were charged with organising gambling games without a permit, aiding this practice, and participating in an organised criminal group.

Spokesperson: – Under the regulations, running gambling games outside a casino without the required licence is a criminal offence and entails criminal liability.

Possessing illegal machines and other equipment enabling gambling is subject to severe fines of PLN 100,000 per machine. They apply both to the person organising illegal gambling and to the owner of the premises where unregistered machines operate. In addition to a hefty fine for organising illegal games, imprisonment of up to three years is also possible. Participation in an organised criminal group is punishable by up to eight years in prison.

Actions in Polkowice

Meanwhile, actions by officers of the DUCS Customs and Tax Service and the Police led to the closure of an illegal gambling venue in Polkowice. Three gaming machines and cash were secured. The person operating the illegal venue was charged with running gambling games in breach of the provisions of the Act.
