On Friday morning, 9 May 2025, a fatal road accident occurred on provincial road No. 390 between Złoty Stok and Lądek-Zdrój. As a result of the head-on collision, one person died and several others were injured.

According to the police’s preliminary findings, the 21-year-old driver of a Ford Fiesta, travelling from the direction of Złoty Stok, crossed into the opposite lane while negotiating a bend, colliding with a Volkswagen Passat travelling correctly in the opposite direction and driven by a 66-year-old German national. The 91-year-old Volkswagen passenger died as a result of the collision, despite receiving medical assistance.

The Ford was carrying three young men, all aged 21 and residents of Dzierżoniów County. The Volkswagen was carrying three people—the driver and two female passengers aged 65 and 91, all German nationals. Both drivers were sober.

Police stress that both excessive speed and difficult road conditions caused by the morning frost may have contributed to the accident. In some places, particularly on shaded sections of the road, the surface may have been slippery.

This accident is a tragic reminder of the need to exercise particular caution on the road, especially in spring, when nighttime temperatures can fall below zero and moisture creates traps invisible to the naked eye.

Police appeal to drivers: every decision on the road matters. Excessive speed, a moment of inattention or unexpected conditions can lead to tragedy. Let us be careful—for ourselves and for other road users.
