A resident of Lwówek County fell victim to a scam and lost the considerable sum of PLN 190,000. Unfortunately, the man wanted to invest in shares of a well-known fuel company, but instead encountered scammers impersonating legitimate investment platforms.

According to the case files, the resident of Lwówek County came across an online advertisement encouraging people to invest in shares of a well-known fuel company. After clicking the link, he was redirected to a website resembling a legitimate investment platform. After filling out the form, a “financial adviser” contacted the man, convincing him of the high profits and assuring him that the investment was completely safe.

Initially, the man deposited a small amount into the bank account indicated in the advertisement. To make matters worse, he installed software that gave the scammers access to his device. As a result, his accumulated savings disappeared from his account in several instalments. Unfortunately, only then did the man realise that he had fallen victim to a scam and reported the matter to the police.

The police appeal for caution! We remind you that scammers use increasingly sophisticated methods, impersonating well-known companies and financial institutions. Before making any investment, it is worth verifying the platform’s credibility, consulting official financial advisers and not trusting promises of quick profits. How can you avoid being scammed?

  • Always check the credibility of investment offers,
  • Do not click on suspicious advertisements on social media,
  • Do not install software that enables remote access to your computer,
  • Remember that legal share investing is carried out exclusively through official brokerage houses.

Remember: no offer is worth risking the loss of control over your finances. When a conversation does take place, never give your account login details, including codes, to people you do not know. Be careful: in the hands of scammers, this information can become the source of serious financial losses. Do not install any applications or programs on your phone or computer. Before doing anything, check the name of the application and find out what it is used for.
