As a result of operational work, officers of the Customs and Tax Service from the Lower Silesian Customs and Tax Office in Wrocław, working together with police officers, shut down nine illegal venues in Świerzawa, Świdnica, Legnica, Złotoryja, Jawor, Wrocław and Wałbrzych.

– The services seized 33 gambling machines – says Agnieszka Rzeźnicka-Gniadek, spokeswoman for the Lower Silesian KAS. – Drugs were also found in the illegal gambling parlours and secured by police officers.

Five people were charged with organising illegal gambling and participating in it.

Spokeswoman:

Operating gambling games outside a casino without the required licence and unauthorised possession of gaming machines are prohibited and punishable. Organising gambling games is punishable by a fine and up to three years’ imprisonment.

She adds:

KAS’s activities are not limited to inspections. Regular educational campaigns are also conducted under the slogan “Gambling – don’t get drawn in”. As part of this initiative, meetings are held in schools, along with workshops and lectures during which young people can learn about the consequences of gambling, as well as how to recognise and avoid risks associated with this phenomenon. Last year, employees and officers of the Customs and Tax Service from the Lower Silesian KAS held 27 meetings in primary and secondary schools, attended by more than 2,730 students.
