According to the Mercedes driver, the incident occurred after dark on a road in Bożejowice, at a location where a cycle path runs. The man was turning from the main road onto a property and noticed two girls riding an electric scooter only at the last moment. According to his account, one of them lost control and hit the car’s hood. The scooter was reportedly unlit, and the girl riding it was not wearing a helmet and did not have a bicycle card.

“The girl was riding and they hit me, not the other way around. The scooter was unlit. It was dark, and I was turning from the main road onto the property. At the last moment, I saw them fall onto my hood. I wanted to call the police and an ambulance because I wanted to clear my name. The girls were frightened and one ran away; the one who had been riding stayed. You cannot even see on the car that she hit it, because she slipped. Her father arrived later. We started talking; I said we should call the police, but he said there was no need for any police and nothing had happened. So they got in and left, and two hours later they came back and made a huge fuss. The police said that this was a cycle path and that I should have been careful. That is why I received a ticket,” the Mercedes driver explained.

“The girl had neither a bicycle card nor a helmet. I know that she spends the whole day here by the school and takes other children around. They built a pavement here in Bożejowice—actually, it is a cycle path—but it is so dangerous, and they ride those scooters so fast that it is genuinely frightening; one day they might kill themselves,” the driver added.

As established by the Bolesławiec police, two minors were riding the scooter. The rider did not have a bicycle card, which means she was not allowed to operate an electric scooter. Moreover, she was carrying a passenger, which is also prohibited. The materials concerning the incident will therefore be forwarded to the family court.

The police appeal to parents to ensure that children who have turned 10 take the examination for a bicycle card and know how and where they may ride an electric scooter.
