News of the death of a famous footballer and coach appeared in regional and national media. Zygmunt Peterek was born in Chorzów (in Silesia) and came from a footballing family. His father, Teodor Peterek, is regarded as a legend of Ruch Chorzów, for which he scored 159 goals. At that time, Ruch played in the first division.
Zygmunt Peterek, popularly known as “Zyga,” began his football career with Górnik Świętochłowice. As Gazeta Wrocławska reports: Later, he moved with his family to Lower Silesia, joining Górnik Słupiec.
Peterek played for several Lower Silesian clubs. He played, among others, for Śląsk Wrocław, Moto-Jelcz Oława and BKS Bolesławiec. He played for BKS in 1973–1974. As Stanisław Zapiór, a coach and former BKS player, recalls, the popular “Zyga” was an exceptional technician. He was able to deliver passes with extraordinary precision. At BKS, he played as a central midfielder.

Zygmunt Peterek’s funeral will take place on January 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the municipal cemetery on Grabiszyńska Street in Wrocław.
The date and location of the funeral were announced on Facebook by Andrzej Padewski, President of the Lower Silesian Football Association.
