The recreational pool has been closed and will remain unavailable until further notice. Legionella bacteria were detected in the water. The samples were collected on November 8.
A statement from the Termy dated November 20 reads:
The pool water in the recreational pool basin does not meet the sanitary requirements specified in the regulation of the Minister of Health due to the detection of Legionella bacteria and is being taken out of use until confirmation is received that the water parameters are correct.
– I filed a complaint about the test with the laboratory because we have only 27 Legionella units, which is within the margin of error, but the regulation says that there must be 0 of them in pool water – Paweł Dul, director of the Municipal Sports and Recreation Center, told istotne.pl. Paweł Dul– For safety reasons, the recreational pool was closed, the Sanitary Inspectorate was informed, and new tests were also carried out. We are waiting for the result – the director adds.
Legionella is a type of bacteria that can cause respiratory diseases, including legionellosis (Legionnaires’ disease) and Pontiac fever. These bacteria occur naturally in aquatic environments, especially in warm, stagnant water, such as tanks, air-conditioning systems and water installations.
Infection mainly occurs by inhaling water aerosols containing Legionella bacteria, for example when using showers, jacuzzis or fountains. Direct contact with water, such as while swimming, does not usually lead to infection.
