Ms Marta, fundraiser organiser and the patient's daughter:

In February 2024, the world stopped for my father Marek: the diagnosis was a very rare neuroendocrine cancer, NEC.

Shock, anger, helplessness, but an even greater determination to fight—my dad will only turn 52 in December. After numerous tests, check-ups and doctors' appointments, he finally began treatment at the Prof. Franciszek Łukaszczyk Oncology Centre in Bydgoszcz. He started chemotherapy. After the fifth dose, a CT scan was performed—it unfortunately showed that metastases had appeared in the bones. Metastatic lesions in the bones—progression.

The doctors in Bydgoszcz are at a loss because they cannot determine how continued chemotherapy will work in the case of such an unusual cancer. We decided to seek a consultation at the M. Skłodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology in Gliwice. This hospital specialises specifically in treating rare neuroendocrine cancers.

Samples were taken for testing, and the doctors in Gliwice told us that they were able to undertake treatment of such a difficult cancer.

The molecular test (gene panel) is primarily intended to plan optimal treatment, potentially using targeted medicines.

In the case of some cancers, key mutations responsible for the development and progression of the disease have been identified. If doctors determine that a patient's cancer has specific features that can be blocked with medicines, personalised treatment is introduced.

Put simply—the right treatment will save my dad. Since my dad runs his own sole proprietorship, Marjomar Upholstery Workshop, and is currently unable to work, we need financial support for his continued treatment. He needs constant care, which my mother provides.

Every złoty counts. We believe that, thanks to the specialists at the Gliwice Oncology Institute, we will manage to overcome this disease. We cannot express how grateful we are and will be for support at such a difficult time in our lives.
